Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.
Fans can expect discovering which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
