The Animated Series' Showrunner Has Seen Your Second Season Bingo Cards — With Some Positive Updates
The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of personalities residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the creator commented earlier this year. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on October 29.
